Something new


Ever since I've started approaching learning design with a performance focus, I've been noodling over the idea of launching a product helping others do the same.

You see, the moment I finished reading Map It, I was convinced I'd be creating killer training within weeks, delivering incredible results, surrounded by clients begging me build their next program.

But it hasn't quite happened like that.

Whilst many of the processes for developing effective training appear bulletproof, it seems to me there's a gap.

A gap between the words on the page and successful execution.

I've experienced it repeatedly—every time I go through the process, I become slightly better.

But it's clumsy.

And pains me to think others are going through the same (although this shouldn't come as a surprise—learning how to do something is very different from doing it, which is exactly why info-dumps don't work).

In fact, being a freelancer may even give me an advantage—I see many different situations, clients and projects, meaning I have more opportunities to "sharpen my saw".

But for some, a dearth of opportunities to practise may mean they never "get it".

And if one thing's for sure—with this stuff, you gotta practise.

So, in the name of being a little more open with that on which I'm working, I wanted to share a super-high level overview of how the course structure may look:

  1. Mindset
  2. Positioning
  3. Performance consulting
  4. Design


I realise without context, this sounds vague and uninteresting.

But I'm excited!

Whilst most books and courses focus on steps 3 and 4, it seems to me steps 1 and 2 are where the biggest deficits lie.

Unless you have the right mindset, and unless you're positioned correctly in the eyes of your clients, you're destined to fail.

And combined with what I'm learning about the practical application of performance-focused solutions, that's where I can offer something different to what's currently available.

The end result being an acceleration of your ability to deliver high-impact, high-value solutions.

So, my plan of attack is as follows...

I'm going to further flesh out the structure, and share it as I go.

After that, I was considering a series of free, live workshops, each focusing on one of the topics in question.

This would be valuable for anyone struggling, but also help me learn more about the challenges faced so I can better design a solution.
